Check out your kitchen with the new virtual reality app of IKEA

What is it?
Ikea is piloting a new app called the ‘IKEA VR Experience’. With this app it is possible to virtually walk through IKEA kitchens. The app works in combination with the HTC Vive, the virtual reality headsets of HTC and Valve and the pilot test keeps on going until August 2016.

Where spotted?

How does it work?
As stated, the app works in combination with the HTC Vive that you can use to explore three different-styled kitchens. With the app it is possible to change colors of, for example, the cabinets, but also to view the kitchen from different perspectives. For instance, you can shrink yourself to view the kitchen when your 3.3 foot-tall, but also virtually walk through the kitchen as a 6.4 foot-tall person. In this way you can see the kitchen from different views, which according to IKEA is a good way to discover hidden dangers or possible design solutions.

What is its core value?
To improve IKEA’s offer and empower their customers.
